EBCC - Intermediate Scholastic Class

Every Friday afternoon from 4:30 to 6 PM


What is it?

  • This class, taught by one of the Bay Area's finest instructors, NM Andy Lee, helps children improve their chess abilities. Students learn the fundamentals of the game, solve tactical puzzles, study top-level games, and play games against one another for practice. (From Monday through Thursday, we offer an afterschool program called Homework & Chess; For teenagers and adults, we offer a introduction to chess called Chess 101!)


How do I sign up?

  • The cost for 1.5 hours of chess instruction is $15 a day, and with limited space, the class is filling up quickly!

Who is the teacher?

  • Andy Lee is also one of the Bay Area's top chess players and teachers, having played since he was six years old and having achieved the rank of National Master.


Where is it?

  • Please note that all supervised study and instruction takes place on site at the East Bay Chess Club
  • We are located at 1940 Virginia Street in Berkeley (cross street Milvia, only a short walk from Downtown and North Berkeley BART)
