- East Bay Chess Club opens in Berkeley
- The East Bay Chess Club opened its doors on Saturday the 14th of August, with an inaugural club championship. 18 players are playing in this free, slow time control swiss, including 4 masters. The tournament concludes with two more games on Sunday.
- EBCC directors in action
- Three East Bay Chess Club directors were in action recently in invitational events. Vinay Bhat played in the U.S. Junior in Kansas, while David Pruess and Andy Lee played at the Mechanics? Institute in the Mark Pinto Invitational and the Mechanics Fide Tournament 2004, respectively. More on two of those events with analysis below. As of this writing Andy has a good score of 7/10 with one game left to play in the Fide Tournament. Good luck!
- Donaldson at U.S. Open
- International Master John Donaldson of Berkeley is pursuing a spot in the U.S. Championships at the U.S. Open, held this year in Florida. After 8 rounds he has an undefeated score of 6-2 (4 wins and 4 draws), half a point behind the leaders for the U.S. Championship qualifier spots! Good luck to him in his last game today!
- Opening Chess-Fest continues all week
- The EBCC?s opening series of free events continues through Sunday the 22nd, including tournaments, simultaneous exhibitions, lectures, variant nights, and casual pick-up games. Tell all your friends to join the fun!
- Wish List - Help the East Bay Chess Club!
- Over the next few weeks, the club will be purchasing many items to improve the quality of the club. We would like, where possible, to get some of these things secondhand to lower our initial costs. If you have any of these items languishing in disuse, please let us know!
