News Section 4 (Nov 13, 2004)
(Back to recent news)
- Salar Jahedi Week at the East Bay Chess Club
- We’re just kidding, of course, but Salar did win the 2nd Monday Mini-Marathon
with a score of 3.5 from 4, beating SM David Pruess, drawing with NM Andy Lee, and finally
beating the winner of the previous Monday tournament, Craig Andries in the final round.
This week’s newsletter contains the game Lee-Andries from the second round of the tournament;
perhaps the next newsletter will have a game of Salar’s.
- Jahedi and Jasthi win in EBCC October Swiss
- Salar had another good result in October, winning the upper section of the
EBCC October Swiss with another score of 3.5 from 4, this time defeating top seed Larry
Snyder before clinching the tournament with a clutch last round bye. Sreekar Jasthi
had an impressive result in the U1500 section, giving up only a draw to his father in
the last round.
- New Prizes for the Next Monday Marathon
- The 3rd Monday Mini-Marathon begins this Monday, November 15th, and will
have a couple of extra prizes, including free entry to the New York Masters for any
player who defeats a master during the course of the tournament. Additionally, the
top board of every Monday night tournament will be broadcast for all to see on the
Internet Chess Club, so if you can’t stop by to watch, just log on!
- The Berkeley Chess Club Moves
- The Berkeley Chess Club, a long-time Friday night tradition in the East Bay,
is moving to a new home on December 3rd: the East Bay Chess Club! EBCC members will
get free entry into this tournament, which begins every Friday at 8pm. Additionally,
NM Andy Lee will give a lecture every Friday at 7pm.
- Wednesday Night Action
- The Wednesday Night Action tournament saw a couple of new players on November 10th,
and a new winner, long-time Wednesday night player Alex Prazma, who won the event even though
he missed the first round!
