The event will be a 9-round norm-governed swiss tournament for players with FIDE ratings over 2200 (the organizers may make a few exceptions). GM and IM norms will be possible, as well as the chance to play against strong opponents. We will be using accelerated pairings for the first 2 rounds so as to maximize norm-seekers' chances. The time control will be 40/2, SD/1.

The confirmed participants include GMs Ehlvest, Yermolinsky, and Fedorowicz, plus IMs Friedel, Bhat, Kraai, and many more!

The first 3 GMs to register will also receive appearance fees:

  • Less than 2500 FIDE: $600
  • Between 2500 and 2575 FIDE: $800
  • More than 2575 FIDE: $1000

The prizes (based on 20 paid entries) are as follows:

  • Overall: $900-700-500-400
  • U2400 FIDE: $500-250
  • U2300 FIDE: $500-250
  • The prize fund may be increased/expanded if there are more than 20 paid entries!

The entry fees are as follows:

  • GMs: Free
  • Foreign IMs: Free Entry, but entry fee deducted from any prize won
  • Non-GMs over 2400 FIDE: $175
  • Non-GMs 2300-2399 FIDE: $250
  • Non-GMs 2200-2299 FIDE: $325

The schedule for the tournament is:

  • Saturday, Dec 17: 10 AM and 4:30 PM
  • Sunday, Dec 18: 10 AM and 4:30 PM
  • Monday-Thursday, Dec 19-22: 1 PM
  • Friday, Dec 23: 11 AM

The event will also be USCF-rated. Games will be played at the East Bay Chess Club in Berkeley (near San Francisco).
